A secret hidden underground

A secret hidden underground

Reservation

Beneath the Old Town, something remained hidden for decades. n 2009, during the reconstruction of Hotel U Prince in the heart of Prague, workers discovered a sealed box.Iinside was A diary. Sketches. Notes without full explanation. Enough to suggest a story. Enough to shape what followed. The beginning of Black Angel’s Bar.

The vision of Alois Krcha - whose diary was found - lives on here. Inspired by the atmosphere of the 1920s and 30s, it lives on in a cocktail bar hidden within a Gothic cellar beneath the Old Town. The light stays low. The air carries another era. And the story begins the moment you step inside.

Discover Alois Krcha’s story

A name that carries weight in Prague’s bar scene. A bartender of the First Republic. A craftsman. A traveller.
A man who believed a bar could be more than a place for conversation and drink. His diary, sketches and notes are fragments of a story never fully told. Some was preserved.

The rest remains between the lines. From them emerged a bar shaped by atmosphere and ritual. The cocktail menu is not merely a collection of drinks, but a reflection of a different approach, guided by intuition. Each recipe has its origin. Each detail, its meaning.

About Dan Brown

A bar that captivated Dan Brown.
So much so that it appears repeatedly in “The Secret of Secrets” as a place where reality and fiction begin to blur. and where the impossible becomes possible. Black Angel’s is not part of the story by chance. It becomes one of its defining elements shaping its direction, atmosphere and mystery.

As a tribute, Dan Brown was given his own chapter within the story of Black Angel’s. The signature cocktail menu pays tribute to his literary world - drawing on the themes, symbols, and imagination that run through his work.

Stories of Alois Krcha

When Alois grew tired of the glitz and glam of Hollywood, he moved to New York. For a time, he worked at the famous The Knickerbocker hotel bar, captivating guests with his bartending craft. One of them was Frankie Yale. Unaware that he was standing before a feared mafia boss, Alois accepted Yale’s offer without hesitation and became head bartender at his new establishment, the Harvard Inn. It was there that he met an eighteen-year-old young man who would change his life more than anyone else: Alphonse Gabriel Capone.

Al, as Alois liked to call him, worked at Yale’s establishments as a barback and bouncer. It was during a bar fight on Coney Island that Capone got another nickname, Scarface, when the Italian boxer Frank Galluccio—known for his jealousy and violent temper—slashed his face with a knife. Alois liked to tease Capone about the scar. Whenever he asked for a cocktail, Alois would grin and ask if he wanted something sharp. Capone would just smirk and reply, “Make it as sharp as a knife.”
